CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Lee University Flames had their first tie of the season against the University of Montevallo Falcons Friday night in Cleveland. Montevallo's record is now 1-2-3, while Lee's is 3-3-1 on their seasons thus far. Tonight was the Falcon's first conference match, leaving them 0-0-1 in conference play. The Flames have already seen two conference opponents, and are now 0-2-1 in conference.
It was a big night for Carlos Fernandes, graduate transfer from Mercy University, as he led the way with his first career goal as a Flame at the 29-minute mark in the first half. His shot came on a shot from over twenty yards out and found the back of the net.
Just as the Flames thought they had the match in their hands, Seth Acton of Montevallo, tied the game with a goal at the 21-minute mark of the second half.
Six cards were issued throughout the game; three from Lee by Farid Chouyouti, Will Tidwell, and Jackson Follis, as well as three from Montevallo by Lucas Atria, Alexander Mueller, and Maurice Mueller.
The Flames will kick off next on Sunday at 3:30 at home to take on Auburn University Montgomery.
Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:
"I was really happy with the performance. I didn't think we played particularly well last Sunday again the University of West Alabama and its hard to recover from that. They recovered very well. We were courageous and brave and we deserved to be in the lead. Tough to swallow the goal that tied it. I am proud of the guys but it is a binary sport and you win or lose and we are all disappointed it wasn't a win.
