MEMPHIS, Tenn. –On the final road trip of the regular season, the Lee University men's soccer team came away with a crucial 2-0 road win at Christian Brothers University on Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a three-game winless streak for the Flames. It is the first win in Memphis for the Flames since 2022.
Lee will return home to end the regular season with senior night. The Flames will host Delta State University on Friday, October 23 at 7:30 PM.
In what is always a physical matchup against the Bucs, Lee scored one goal in each half. Michael Oberbeck received a pass from Marcos Garcia and volleyed it home to give Lee the 1-0 lead. Then in the 76
th minute, Andreas Aspris ran onto a long ball and doubled Lee's lead.
The Flames were outshot by CBU 13-9, but Charles Carriglitto made four saves to preserve the shutout. CBU had 17 fouls to just six for Lee, but the Flames had three yellows to just one for the Bucs.
Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:
"I felt like this was going to be a tricky game. We had come off three good performances but disappointing results in all three and with a young team it can be hard to keep your belief in what you do. But the guys came out on fire and played a brilliant first half and really showed their conviction to each other and what we do.
As a coach that's something that is deeply rewarding. So a great collective performance that was highlighted by some stellar individual efforts. We needed that and it puts us in a good place for our last home game of the season on Friday.
We will get some rest, but we are looking forward to getting in a few good days of training as well this week. We still think we can get better over these next few weeks of the season."
