Flames Shutout Delta State on Senior Night

CLEVELAND, Tenn. –On a chilly Friday evening, the Lee University men's soccer team celebrated senior night with a defeat of Delta State University 1-0. The Flames ended the regular season with a win and will head to the postseason with an 8-4-4 record and a 5-3-2 Gulf South Conference record. Lee will head to the University of Montevallo on Saturday, October 31st for the first round of the GSC tournament.

Before the game, the Flames recognized three seniors: Matia Milla Munoz, William Morehead, and Brandon Villanueva.

In a scrappy game, Marcos Garcia scored the lone goal of the game in the 54th minute. He headed Ansel Ledezma's corner kick into the bottom right corner of the goal for the game winner.

Then in the 62nd minute, Ledezma received a red card and the Flames had to play down a player for the last 28 minutes. Charles Carriglitto came up with two saves and helped preserve the shutout.

Lee out shot DSU 14-11 in the contest and there were six total cards handed out in the match.

Coach Derek Potteiger's Thoughts:

"Senior is always bittersweet regardless of the year. Because you want to honor those guys but it means it's their last home game. All of the guys we recognized tonight have left an indelible mark on the program all in their own way and in different roles and timetables."
