Lady Flames Open Season With 7-0 Victory Over King

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The No. 24 Lee University women's tennis team opened its 2026 season with a 7-0 win over King University Tuesday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames improved to 1-0 while the Tornado dropped to 1-2 on the young season.

Lee made short work of the doubles competition. Nicolette Fuhr and Jasmine Ibegulam won 6-0 in the third position against Sarah Hale and Rani Malhoe. Maria Fernanda Duarte and Aliyah Dwyer won 6-2 to secure the doubles point against Ruth Robison and Trinity Moore. Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual Blanca were 6-4 winners against Deniz Aytun and Shellby Tranchita to complete the doubles sweep.

Fuhr opened singles competition with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lily Belcher at No. 6 singles. Yoshida, ranked No. 37, dropped just two points to Aytun as Lee went ahead 3-0. Duarte was a 6-1, 6-1 winner against Robison at No. 5 singles to clinch the team victory.

Vitoria Maximiliano took down Moore 6-2 and 6-4 at the fourth position, while Dwyer held off Malhoe 7-5 in the second set to complete the two-set win at No. 3 singles. Blanca completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tranchita at No. 2 singles.

The Lady Flames are scheduled to return to action on Sunday as part of a doubleheader with the Flames against Wallace State Community College-Hanceville. The exhibition matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
