Women's Tennis Defeats Christian Brothers 7-0

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The 25th-ranked Lee University women's tennis team shut out Christian Brothers University 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames improved their GSC record to 2-0 and 3-0 overall.

CBU traveled with just four players, so the Lady Flames claimed the No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles by default.

Andrea Pascual Blanca and Rima Yoshida secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Valerie Neumann and Fernanda Garcia Galves at No. 1 doubles. Aliyah Dwyer and Maria Fernanda Duarte were 6-2 winners against Raheen Taranum and Neha Dandu to complete the doubles sweep.

Dwyer blanked Dandu 6-0 and 6-0 at No. 3 singles to push Lee ahead 4-0 and clinch the team win. Vitória Maximiliano led Taranum 1-0 in the first set when Taranum retired. Pascual Blanca was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles. Yoshida lost her first set 6-4 to Neumann in the No. 1 singles contest. Yoshia, ranked No. 37, fought back to win the second set 6-2 to force a third set where she beat Neumann 10-7 in a superset tiebreaker.

The Lady Flames return to action Sunday afternoon at Middle Georgia State University. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Devos Tennis Center.
