CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's tennis team stepped back out of conference play to defeat Middle Georgia State University 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames improved to 4-0, while the visiting Knights fell to 3-2.
MGSU took an early advantage in the doubles competition with Ainhoa Meili Fernandez and Agustina Olivero beating Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual Blanca 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Maria Fernanda Duarte and Aliyah Dwyer defeated Irina Furtuna and Lucile Gence 6-3 at the second spot. Jasmine Ibegbulam and Nicolette Fuhr secured the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Yana Prihach and Aya El Marrasse.
Yoshida, ranked No. 37, took down Fernandez 6-4 and 6-2 to put Lee ahead 2-0. Pascual Blanca was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 2 doubles. Dwyer took down Gence 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the team win. The final three singles contests were left unfinished.
The Lady Flames return to conference action with a trip to Valdosta State University on Wednesday. The GSC battle is set to begin at 2 p.m.
