MOBILE, Ala. – The 23
rd-ranked Flames responded to their first loss of the year with a 7-0 non-conference win at Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon. Lee improved its record to 6-1, while Spring Hill dropped to 7-7.
Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimarães took down Luke Tucker and Will Huckell 6-2 to open doubles competition. Jip Langerhuizen and Roberto Leal beat Cristobal Rios and Evan Patton 6-4 to secure the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished with Stefan Mos and Filipe Krohn trailing 5-3.
Guimarães defeated Luke Bedwell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Razminas beat Patton 6-4 and 6-3 at the fifth position. Leal posted matching scores of 6-3 to beat Cristobal in two sets to clinch the team win for the Flames.
Krohn, ranked No. 14, was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Tom Gutermann at the top position. Mos needed three sets and a couple tiebreakers to post the win at No. 3 singles. Mos won the first set 7-6 following an 8-6 tiebreaker. Tom Ruel forced a final set with a 6-3 second set win. In a super set tiebreaker, Mos completed the win with a 10-4 margin.
Langerhuizen completed the shutout with a straight set win over Filipe Grebentsov. He won the first set 6-2 and held on in the second set 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker.
The Flames return to action on Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial University. The non-conference match is set for 2 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Complex in Harrogate, Tennessee.
