Lady Flames Fall 7-0 To No. 6 Mississippi College

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's tennis team had its two-match win streak snapped Saturday morning at the DeVos Tennis Center. No. 6 Mississippi College remained unbeaten at 18-0 and 7-0 within the GSC with a 7-0 defeat of the 43rd-ranked Lady Flames (6-4, 2-3 GSC).

In a battle of ranked doubles teams, the fourth-ranked team of Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett shut out the 50th-ranked team of Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual Blanca 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Jasmine Ibegbulam and Nicolette Fuhr were beaten 6-2 by Katharina Weber and Molly Bennett at No. 3 doubles as MC secured the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with Anna Hudson and Rocio Martinez leading Maria Fernanda Duarte and Aliyah Dwyer 4-2.

Buchanan, ranked No. 4, was a 6-3, 6-3 winner against No. 20 Yoshida at No. 1 singles. Martinez upset Pascual, ranked No. 62, 6-0 and 6-2 at the second position. Weber clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Dwyer.

Duarte fell 6-2, 6-1 to Stockett. Fuhr lost by matching 6-2 set scores to Mariana Munoz. Hudson completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-2 score against Vitória Maximiliano.

The Lady Flames step back out of conference play to take on Carson-Newman University on Tuesday. The non-conference match is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
