VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 24 Flames tennis team handed Valdosta State University a 6-1 defeat Wednesday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. Lee improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the GSC, while VSU fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the GSC.

Stefan Mos and Filipe Krohn posted a 6-2 win over Wilson Igbinovia and Emile Delporte at No. 2 doubles. Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimarães took down Julien Doitteau and Jan Thissen 6-3 to secure the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished with Philipp Bosse and Pietro Casciola leading Lee's Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen 5-3.

Razminas pushed the Lee advantage to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Delporte at the sixth position. The Blazers pulled back within one point with Bosse's 7-6, 6-2 win against 41st-ranked Groenendijk.

Guimarães used a 9-7 tiebreaker to win his first set 7-6 and used the momentum to beat Jerome Iaconi 6-2 in the second set for the straight-set win.

In a battle of ranked players, 12th-ranked Krohn defeated 27th-ranked Doitteau 6-1 and 7-5 to clinch the team victory.

Mos ran through his first set with Thissen by a 6-1 margin then needed a 7-4 tiebreaker to complete the No. 4 singles win. Langerhuizen fought back from a 7-5 first-set setback to come from behind to beat Igbinovia 6-2 and 6-2 in their last two sets to supply the final margin.

The Flames are scheduled to return to action at 1:30 p.m. on Monday against No. 7 University of North Georgia. The non-conference match is part of the 3rd Annual Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase that is being hosted by North Georgia at the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park.

Coach Patric Hynes' thoughts:
"Proud of our men today. This is a really hard place to get a win. We set a great early tone with the doubles point and held up really strong in the important moments."
