Flames 6-1 Winners At Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The 23rd-ranked Lee University men's tennis team completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 6-1 win at Carson-Newman University Tuesday afternoon at Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. The Flames improved to 9-1 while the Eagles dropped to 4-12.

Lee quickly earned the doubles point after winning the first two completed matches. Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimarães beat Boris Jordanov and Wade Donovan 6-0 at the third position. Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen held off Yassin Ali and Leonard Baecker 6-4 at No. 1 doubles to give Lee the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with Stefan Mos and Filipe Krohn trailing Louis Keenan and Max Stollecker 5-4.

Mos put the Flames ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ali in the third position. Krohn, ranked No. 14, beat Keenan 6-3 and 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

Stollecker ended Lee's shutout hopes after holding off Langerhuizen 7-5, 7-6 at No. 2 singles.

Razminas was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Donovan at No. 5 singles to clinch the team win for the Flames. Guimarães outlasted Baecker 7-5 in their first set before winning the second 6-1. Roberto Leal supplied the final margin with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Rosario at the sixth position.

The Flames will return to action on Friday for their final road contest of the regular season. Lee travels to Livingston, Alabama, to take on No. 17 West Alabama in a GSC battle scheduled to begin at noon EDT.
