JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The 43
rd-ranked Lee University women's tennis team completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 7-0 win at Carson-Newman University Tuesday afternoon at Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. The Lady Flames improved to 7-4, while the Eagles dropped to 6-9.
The 50
th-ranked doubles team of Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual Blanca started doubles action with a 6-3 win over Hala Awad and Abinaya Sweeton. Mar Fraile Garcia and Leah McBride beat Jasmine Ibegbulam and Nicolette Fuhr 6-4 to even the doubles competition.
Maria Fernanda Duarte and Aliyah Dwyer defeated Maria del Mar Sarda Marti and Kira Braacke 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Lady Flames.
Dwyer opened singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Sindija Manovska at the third position. Pascual, ranked No. 62, was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles against Braacke. Rima, ranked No. 20, clinched the team victory with a 6-2 and 7-5 win over Kerrigan Spiers at the first spot.
Duarte dropped just two games in beating Sweeton at No. 5 singles. Vitória Maximiliano took down McBride 6-3 and 6-4 to continue the team's momentum. Fuhr beat Aguiar 6-3 in their opening set of the No. 6 singles match and needed an 8-6 tiebreaker to win the second set 7-6 to complete the shutout.
The Lady Flames will return to action on Friday for their final road contest of the regular season. Lee travels to Livingston, Alabama, to take on No. 5 West Alabama in a GSC battle scheduled to begin at noon EDT.
