HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lee University men's cross country team opened its 2026 season with an 11^th place finish out of 29 teams in the Southern Showcase Invite Friday morning at the John Hunt Cross Country Course. The Flames were second among non-DI teams in the 8K race.

The University of Alabama claimed the top five finishers as the Crimson Tide recorded the team win with 15 points. Appalachian State was second with 118 points, Georgia Tech was third with 124 points and Clemson placed fourth with 169 points.

Lee accumulated 299 points to finish 11^th, although the Flames' projected top five runners did not participate in the competition. GSC foes AUM (440) and Mississippi Christian (455) finished 13^th and 15^th, respectively.

Alabama's Dismus Lokira was the individual winner with a time of 23:08.75. Kylian Boulanger was the first Lee runner across the finish line at 24:54.34 to place 39^th overall. Sam Nesbitt stopped the clock at 25:06.13 for 48^th place.

Jayden Allred posted a time of 25:12.99 for 60^th and Parker Campbell (25:17.94) was 67^th. Lee's final scorer was Conner Campbell at 119^th (25:51.42).

Nathan Fontan and Ben Flanigan acted as Lee's Spacers. Fontan crossed the line at 26:22.69 for 171^st and Flanigan was 202^nd at 26:44.53. William Adkins was close behind at 26:49.59 (210^th).

CJ Jeffords and Sidney Stegall were the last two Lee runners to complete the circuit. Jeffords' time of 27:15.61 put him in 236^th. Stegall was 246^th (27:25.50) out of 304 runners.

The Flames are scheduled to return to action on October 3 in the 8K Gold Race of the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic that will be held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
