CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Lee women's soccer team dominated in a 1-0 victory over visiting Mississippi Christian University at the Ray Conn Sports Complex on a near perfect Saturday afternoon. The 9th-ranked Lady Flames bounced back from their first loss of the season and improved to 3-1 in GSC play and 5-1-1 overall. The Lady Choctaws dropped to 1-1-2, 4-2-2. Lee will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Lincoln Memorial University at 5 p.m.
The Lady Flames were in control for almost the entire time and outshot the Lady Choctaws 18-3, placing eight on goal to only one for the visitors. However, the winning goal did not come until the 81st minute when Addie Chatman chipped in an unassisted goal following a corner kick. It was her fourth goal of the year.
Isabella Valentine (3), Chatman (2), Emma Nelson (1), Siri Stenslie (1) and Sam Sheffield (1) all had shots on goal. Choctaw goalkeeper Baiityn Settlemires had six saves in taking the loss.
Abby Whitcomb claimed her fifth win of the year and was credited with one save. Lee's defense was led by Moa Ekman, Whitney Carrigan and Molly Cook while Aubrey Benfield and Valentine led the offensive charge.
Lee's domination showed with nine corner kicks to only one for the visitors. The Lady Flames took 12 of their 18 shots in the second 45 minutes of play. The Lady Choctaws were whistled for 12 fouls and Lee seven.
