Called a “tireless worker” by Lee Head Tennis Coach Patric Hynes, Jake Okines enters his second year as a graduate assistant after playing for the Flames the past four seasons. “You always want to keep good people in your program as long as possible,” said Coach Hynes. "Jake represents everything that a Lee tennis player should aspire to be.
Hynes added, “Jake did a sensational job for our teams last year. He has been in our program for five years now, so he has a complete understanding of what we need to take the next step. He is a tireless worker, fantastic communicator, and a calming presence for everyone. His knowledge of the game is first class and he’s been able to add a lot to our program since transitioning from a player to coach.”
Okines played for Lee from 2016 to 2019 and posted a combined singles and doubles record of 79-67. In 2018 he was nationally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association at No. 42 in doubles. He helped the Flames record the most victories in a season since 2004 with a 17-6 overall record and in 2019 scored the program’s first win in the GSC Tournament.
He earned recognition as Second Team All-GSC in 2019 and collected a spot on the GSC Academic Honor Roll all four years. In 2019 Okines scored the program’s first win in the GSC Tournament.
The native of Canberra, Australia, graduated in May 2019 with a degree in Health Science. He is currently enrolled in Lee’s Master of Business Administration program.
