George Starr is the Director of Broadcasting and Voice of the Flames. In addition to his duties as the play by play voice for volleyball, men's and women's basketball, and baseball, Starr also serves as the senior writer for Lee Athletics.
Starr spent 20 years as the Sports Information Director at Lee and is now in his 33rd season of broadcasting Lee athletic events on the radio and live stream.Â
The native of Athens, Tenn., came to Lee with a lot of media experience. He spent four years as Sports editor at the Daily Post Athenian and from there worked 12 years as the Sports editor at the Cleveland Daily Banner. He was also a sports writer at the Chattanooga Free Press for four years and the Managing and Executive editor of the Cleveland Daily Banner for five years.
Starr, a legendary figure in local athletics, was inducted into the Lee Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006 and is also a member of the Tennessee Sports Writer's Association Hall of Fame, Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame and Bradley County Hall of Fame.
He and his wife, Joyce reside in Cleveland, Tenn. and have three sons and eight grandchildren.
