GREENVILLE, S.C. - Lee University baseball player Trenton Hill has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Bentonville, Ark. native helped lead the Flames to a sweep of Union University (Tenn.) this past weekend in their Gulf South Conference opener.
Hill continued his dominance on the mound as he worked eight shutout innings to earn the win in Friday's 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Hill struck out seven, walked two and surrendered just three hits in the contest. The junior is now 3-0 on the season with a 0.50 ERA and has punched out 23 batters in 18 innings.
"Once again our pitching led the way," noted head coach Mark Brew after Friday's game. "Hill was phenomenal and Briner continues to be able to close the door for us in the ninth. We need our pitching to continue leading the way until our hitters find the consistency we will need throughout the season."
Hill would make his presence felt at the plate as well as he went 3-for-10 in the series. Hill is hitting .323 with three doubles, a triple and six RBI on the year.
"Trent provides lots of versatility for us. He is a great option on the mound with his power Left-handed arm," said Brew. "Additionally, he can play first base or outfield and hits in the middle of our line-up and we need him to provide the production at the plate that garnered him numerous post-season honors in 2014."
Hill is the second straight Lee athlete to garner the national award. Last week Lady Flames' shortstop Amanda Lynn received the honor.Â
Hill and the Flames will look to remain unbeaten as they host Alabama-Huntsville in a three-game GSC series this weekend.Â
