BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the fifth time this season, men's soccer forward David Perez has been named the  Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week as he continued his outstanding 2015 campaign in two Lee victories this past weekend.
The weekly honor has only been given out a total of seven times this season.Â
Perez registered a hat trick, striking for three goals in the Flames' 5-3 offensive slugfest with Delta State on Friday. The Dalton, Ga. native came back to tally another goal on Sunday as Lee defeated Mississippi College, 2-1 to improve to 10-2-2 overall and remain unbeaten in the GSC at 7-0-1.
Perez leads the team with 15 goals on the year to go along with four assists. The junior is the leading scorer in the GSC and ranks tied for fifth among all Division II goal scorers.Â
"Not sure what else I can say about DP (David Perez), he's a special player having a special season," said head coach Paul Furey after Sunday's victory.
Perez and the Flames will host Christian Brothers on Friday night at 7 p.m. before welcoming Union to the Lee Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon (4:30 p.m.). Sunday's match will feature a special Senior Day Ceremony to honor the seven seniors on the Lee roster.
