BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -The Gulf South Conference released the All-GSC Volleyball team for the 2015 season on Monday and Lee freshman Silvia Sartori claimed second-team honors and was named the top freshman in the league, as voted on by the coaches.
Sartori, an outside hitter from Belgrade, Serbia, red-shirted last season after suffering a leg injury in an exhibition match. She was worth the wait as she led the team with 366 kills and 249 digs. Sartori also registered 28 service aces and 42 blocks, showcasing her versatility as both a front and back line player.
Sartori was named the GSC Freshman of the Week on three different occasions (9/29, 10/27, 11/10).
Valdosta State's Jessica Codato was named the GSC Player of the Year. Codato stuffed the stat sheet with 997 assists, 149 kills, 318 digs and 60 blocks. Stephanie Radecki from North Alabama was named the league's coach of the year. Radecki led the Lions to a 24-7 overall mark and a 17-3 record in conference play. The Lions are the No. 2 seed in this weeks' GSC Volleyball Tournament.
West Florida led the way with five members on the All-GSC squad. The 22nd-ranked Argos will host the semifinals and finals of the GSC Tournament on Saturday and Sunday after finishing on top of the standings with a record of 27-5, 19-1.
