The Gulf South Conference (GSC) announced its annual Track & Field honors Friday afternoon and Lee University runner Amy Carpenter was named the GSC Women's Track & Field Freshman.

Carpenter, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., had two fifth-place finishes in the 1500 meter and 10000 meter races and placed ninth in the 800 meter run at the GSC Women's Track & Field Championship.

"Amy has slowly progressed through the year," said Morgan. "Over the last several months, she has turned into an outstanding competitor and dropped over 30 seconds off her 5K. She is a good example of what an athlete can do when they come and put in consistent work for a year. She deserves this award. I am proud of what she has accomplished in her short time at Lee."
