Lee women’s basketball junior Carrie Cheeks has been named the GSC’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Cheeks led the Lady Flames (5-1, 1-0) to two wins this week, recording a double-double in each contest and averaging 17.5 points per game and 14.0 rebounds per game this week. On the year the junior from Ranger, Ga. has recorded a double-double in five of the six games. She was also efficient from the floor, shooting 82.3% (14-of-17) from the field. Cheeks is averaging a double-double on the season, with 15.7 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game. Both her scoring and rebounding numbers rank in the top six of the conference.
The Lady Flames rolled past Fisk University last Tuesday in a non-conference matchup, 80-32 before opening conference play with a 79-70 victory over rival Shorter University.
"Carrie is playing at such a high level right now for us on both ends of the court," said head coach Marty Rowe. "She runs the court better than anyone in the league and has done a much better job this season staying out of foul trouble."
