BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lee senior goalkeeper Tristan Putnam has been named the Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.
The Forney, Texas native kept the No. 13 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish off the scoreboard while collecting four saves in Thursday’s 0-0 draw at the Lee Soccer Field.
On the season Putnam has posted a 0.58 goals against average while saving 15 shots, including several acrobatic saves, to help lead the Flames to a 1-0-2 start.
“Tristan has been very solid for us in the early going so far this season. He has made some big saves in each game, but beyond that his confidence is contagious among the whole back line,” said Lee head coach Derek Pottegier. “He certainly deserves the weekly honor but it represents the entire team’s commitment to our defensive mentality.”
Putnam and the Flames will test No. 11 Young Harris College on the road on Tuesday before opening conference play this weekend with home matches against Delta State on Friday (7 p.m.) and Mississippi College on Sunday (4 p.m.)
