Senior transfer Emily Buwalda has been named the Lee University Female Athlete of the Week after leading the 25th-ranked Lady Flames to a third place finish at the Furman Cross Country Classic on Saturday.

Buwalda finished the 6K event in 17th place with a time of 22:10.26 to help Lee (92 points) earn the the top non-Division I finish just behind Furman and Clemson.

"This is the best women's team I have ever coached and that Lee has ever had," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. "Emily (Buwalda) led us today and is already making the impact that we expected her to when we signed her."

Buwalda and the Lady Flames will get right back to work as they run at the Stegemoller Classic in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
