Junior volleyball standout Silvia Sartori has been named the Lee University Female Athlete of the Week.

Sartori led the Lady Flames to a pair of crucial Gulf South Conference victories last weekend and helped Lee secure its second straight trip to the GSC Tournament.

Sartori posted a career-high 27 kills and added 16 digs in a thrilling five-set victory over Montevallo on Saturday. The Lady Flames rallied from 5-0 down in the short set to win the match.

On Friday night in the annual Volley For A Cure Match, Sartori had six big slams in the first set and finished with nine in the contest to lead the Lady Flames. The junior's seventh kill on the evening was the 1,000 of her career.

"I knew I was close but I wasn't really thinking about the number during the match," said Sartori, a two-time all-conference selection. "It surprised me when I heard the announcement but I didn't want it to be about me I was just trying to help the team."

"I was excited to hear that Silvia was close to that milestone," said head coach Andrea Hudson. "She has meant so much to our team and for her to have knee surgery last year and work so hard to get back for this year it was nice to see her reach this mark and she continues to be a big reason for our success."

Sartori and the Lady Flames will wrap up the regular season with a visit to No. 20 West Florida on Friday before heading to Valdosta State on Saturday.
