LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lee University sophomore slugger Taylor Moran was named to the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association All-South Region First Team the organization announced this week.
Moran ranked in the top four in every major offensive category this season. She led the Gulf South Conference (GSC) and is fifth in the nation in on-base percentage (.571) and is tops in the league and seventh nationally in RBI (62). The Chattanooga native and Silverdale Academy product is second in hits (73), home runs (13), slugging percentage (.785) and total bases (128) and third in walks (34) and fourth in batting average (.448).
Moran finished the year at the GSC Tournament going 3 for 6 with three singles in two games before rain washed out the rest of the weekend.
"Taylor had a great year. We hope that she will be considered for a few more awards based on this season. This is a very prestigious honor and one that she is very deserving of receiving," said head coach Emily Russell.
The GSC had 11 programs earn All-Region honors with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference nipping on its heels with 10. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Sunshine State Conference, Northeast-10 Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Southern Athletic Conference were represented by seven schools.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
The 2018 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 23 at the NCAA Division II National Championship Banquet in Salem, Va.
