BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lee University senior MaKayla Beebe was named the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week the league office announced on Tuesday.
"I'm not surprised to see MaKayla once again receive this award. She had a great weekend against some very tough competition," said head coach Andrea Hudson. "She continues to push herself every week in practice, as well as pushing her teammates. I'm so proud of her."
Beebe recorded 81 digs in the 2018 Holiday Inn Express Classic as Lee defeated Arkansas Monticello while losing to No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic and Arkansas Tech . The Aurora, Ill. native was also credited with 14 assists on the weekend, while serving two aces. She leads the GSC in total digs (170) and digs per set (6.54).
Beebe will look to continue her fantastic defensive play as the Lady Flames return to action this Friday in Pensacola, Fla. for the 2018 Argo Bash. Lee will take on Harding University, and Spring Hill College on Friday, before battling host No. 11 West Florida on Saturday.
