BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Haley Schubert was named the Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The freshman guard led the team in scoring averaging 16.5 points over the two games for the Lady Flames. Lee split the weekend in Saint Leo, losing to No. 17 Florida Southern, 70-64 on Friday before handing the home Lions a 71-50 defeat on Saturday.
Schubert shot 40 percent from the floor while hitting 2 of 5 from behind the three-point line and shooting 7 of 10 from the free throw line. To go along with her 33 points the Knoxville native pulled down three rebounds, dished out three assists, recorded two blocks, and was credited with nine steals.
"Haley had a great weekend in Florida," said Head Coach Marty Rowe. "She performed at a high level against two good basketball teams and certainly deserves this recognition."
Schubert and the Lady Flames will play their home opener on Wednesday as they welcome Cumberland University to Walker Arena for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
