BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore women's tennis player Carley Sickinger earned Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors for her role in helping the Lady Flames go 4-0 on the week, including a 3-0 record in GSC contests.
This is the first time Sickinger has received this honor so far this season.
Sickinger was 4-0 in singles and went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles with Kirr. Sickinger began the week with a 7-5, 6-1 win against Tennessee Wesleyan's Helena Cabezas Marti. She then beat Anastasia Jovicic of Shorter 6-1, 6-0. The sophomore finished the week with a 6-2, 6-1 win at Delta State and a 6-2, 6-2 win at Christian Brothers.
"I'm very happy for Carley. She's had a great year," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes.
In doubles, Sickinger and Kirr dropped just three points in three matches played. The duo double-up Haruka Hirata and Yvette Callaghan of Tennessee Wesleyan 6-3. They recorded 6-0 victories against Shorter and at Delta State to complete the week.
The Lady Flames return to action on Saturday, March 30, against The University of Alabama in Huntsville. The GSC contest is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at the DeVos Tennis Center.
