Men's basketball player Corey Billingsley has been named Lee University's Male Athlete of the Week after helping to guide the Flames to two straight victories to open up Gulf South Conference (GSC) play.

Billingsley scored 24 points in the Flames 82-76 victory over West Florida on Monday (Dec. 16) in the GSC opener. The junior guard was 5-of-7 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from behind the arc but recorded most of his damage at the foul line hitting 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.

Billingsley led the charge with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists in Lee's upset win over No. 25 Valdosta State, 72-59 on Thursday (Dec. 19). The Sweetwater native leads the Flames in scoring averaging 19.4 ppg. to start the 2013-14 campaign. Billingsley is shooting a sizzling 55.6 percent from the field and 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from 3-point distance.

Billingsley and the Flames will open up 2014 on the road when they clash with GSC opponent North Alabama on Saturday, Jan. 4.
