Women's basketball player Rachel Lockhart has been recognized as Lee University's Female Athlete of the Week after guiding the Lady Flames to a pair of Gulf South Conference (GSC) victories last week.
The senior guard scored six points, grabbed five boards and dished off four assists in Thursday's 79-68 win over the University of North Alabama.
In arguably the biggest game to-date the Dunlap native had her best overall performance as she recorded her first double-double of her senior campaign in Lee's 70-65 victory over long time rival Union University. Lockhart finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lady Flames complete its first season sweep of the Lady Bulldogs. Lockhart hit 3-of-6 from the field and converted 5-of-8 from the foul line in the contest.
"Rachel is so vital to our team on and off the court. She’s one of the most unselfish leaders to ever put on the Lee uniform," said head coach Marty Rowe. "Without a doubt she is our best defender and relishes that role."
Often drawing the difficult task of guarding the opposition's top scorer, Lockhart is averaging 6.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg and dishes off three assists a contest.
Lockhart and the Lady Flames (15-4, 11-2) sit alone in second place in the GSC and will now gear up for a showdown with first-place Delta State University on Thursday in Cleveland, Miss. The Lady Statesmen handed Lee its lone home defeat on the year in a 71-64 setback on Jan. 9.
