Duran Blue tied a single-game record for highest 3-point percentage, going a perfect 7-of- 7 from behind the arc, to lead the Lee men's basketball team over Spring Hill College, 90-52 Saturday evening at Walker Arena.
Lee shot the ball well from the start of the contest and opened up a 19 point lead on the Badgers at the intermission. The Flames never looked back in route to their ninth-straight win to begin the 2012-13 campaign.
Blue would finish with a game-high 25 points for Lee. The senior guard would also dish out five assists. Senior Will Barnes added 20 points to match his scoring average on the year and had a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Corey Billingsley was also hot from downtown, hitting 4-of-5 treys and finishing with 16 markers.
Chase Dunn dished out six assists and added five points. Patrick Shaughnessy was active in the post with seven points, four boards and two blocks. Kymon Woods added seven rebounds, five points and three assists off the bench to round out a dominating performance for the Flames.
"Spring Hill was collapsing so much to cut off the drive it left the 3-point shots open and we have a lot of guys who can knock down the three" Coach Tommy Brown said.
Coach's Brown squad dominated the battle of the boards, outreboudning the Badgers 40-25. The Flames defense limited SHC to just 35.8 percent shooting from the field (19-of-52). Lee on the other hand went 28-of-54 (51.9 percent) from the field and shot a sizzling 61.3 percent from the 3-point line, going 19-of-31.
"After having to play last night and come right back around and play today I was suprised we came out and shot the ball as well as we did." admitted Brown. "Whether you're getting open looks or not, being able to knock down over 60 percent of your 3-point shots is pretty remarkable."
Spring Hill was paced by Alex Looney with 15 points and Todd Martin with 11. Robert Gipson and Frederick Gatson each pulled down seven boards for the Alabama club.
The victory moves the Flames to 9-0 on the year and 4-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The loss drops SHC to 1-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Lee will be back action on Tuesday as they welcome Knoxville College to Walker Arena. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
