MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Lee University men's tennis team took on Auburn University at Montgomery Tuesday afternoon in its first SSAC match of the season. The Flames (0-2, 0-1 SSAC) were soundly defeated by the No. 2 team in the NAIA, 9-0.
AUM (4-1, 2-0 SSAC) swept the three doubles matches. Richard Gamble and Vincent Audy were beaten 8-2 by Tim Hewitt and Bence Toth.
The No. 12 ranked team of Zinelabidine Jouini and Othmane Lalami took down Lee's Daniel Hardesty and Patrick Kim, 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, Fabio Medina and Kevin Tan fell to Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff and Miguel Grifol by an 8-3 margin.
The Warhawks won all six singles matches in straight sets with only one set allowing a Lee netter more than two points.
Richard Gamble lost to No. 2 Pinones-Haltenhoff, 6-0, 6-2. Audy and Medina lost by the matching score of 6-1, 6-0. Audy fell to No. 6 Hewitt and Medina to Toth.
Hardesty was beaten by the No. 33 player in Jouini and Tan fell to Dasso by the same 6-1, 6-2 score.
Kim was outlasted by Reason, 6-4, in the first set then lost the second set, 6-1.
Next up for Lee will be No. 5 William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Friday afternoon match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (EST) start.
