MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lee University men's tennis team was eliminated from the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament after losing 5-0 to Belhaven University (Miss.) in the quarterfinals Saturday morning.
No. 14 Belhaven (14-3) swept all three doubles matches and the first two singles matches to avoid the upset. Belhaven was seeded No. 3 and Lee University (4-5) was the No. 6 seed.
Richard Gamble and Fabio Medina were held off, 8-5, by Nikita Lisov and Andres Yepez at No. 1 doubles. Kevin Tan and Vincent Audy were beaten by Jefferson Nino and David Mejia, 8-4, while Patrick Kim and Andre Ishida mustered two points against Daniel Prado and Enrico Patriarca.
Nino (ranked No. 32 in singles) blanked Audy for the straight-set victory. Mejia outlasted Kim 6-3 in the first set and closed out the match with a 6-2 margin in the final set.
