OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - Consistent was the name of the game as the Lee women's golf team defeated Lipscomb University, Belmont University and Tennessee State to win the Big Blue Intercollegiate at the Hermitage Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Four Lady Flames scored in the 70s in posting a team score of 314 on Tuesday. Lee tallied a 321 on Monday and the final 635 total was two strokes better than the 637 turned in by Lipscomb and six strokes better than Belmont's 641 team score. Lindsey Wilson paced fourth (654), Trevecca Nazarene  fifth (669) and the host Tennessee State came in with a 749.

"Today was a great first for the women's golf program," said coach John Maupin. "Anytime you can outright win a (NCAA) Division 1 event I think that's a great accomplishment. There were four other women's golf programs from the state of Tennessee represented so to come out on top is a good feeling for our team."

Bernadette Little and Kristin Bourg stepped up to help the Lady Flames pull out the win. Both had a 78 on Tuesday. "We got a huge round from Kristin today. It's really good to see a senior come through like that," the coach pointed out. Sloane Skinner 79-79 - 158) placed sixth in the individual competition. Courtney Shelton (80-79 - 159) followed close behind and tied for seventh overall with teammate Madison Alexander ( 79-80 - 159).

"I was really proud of all the girls today because it was one of those tournaments where no one played their best, but they still battled for every shot. With a two-shot victory that turned out to be crucial." Maupin noted.

Janet Steen of Belmont (76-76 - 152) was the medalist winner. Kaitlin of Lindsey Wilson (82-71 - 153) was second and Danielle Grace of Lipscomb was third (77-77 - 154.).

The Lady Flames will be in Montgomery, Ala. next week and will be going after the Southern States Athletic Conference title.
