HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The month-long travails of the Lee University men's basketball team continued Saturday afternoon with a 66-52 loss at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
The Flames (6-8, 2-6 GSC) have lost six consecutive games since the returning to action from the semester break. Lee will look to put an end to the streak on Thursday when they host University of West Georgia.
"Our guys are playing hard, trying to do what we are telling them to do," said Lee head coach Tommy Brown. "They're competing to get better, but we just don't have a big margin for error. It doesn't get any easier with West Georgia coming in on Thursday."
Corey Billingsley led Lee with 18 points. The junior added five rebounds and two assists in the loss. Joining Billingsley in double-digit scoring was Tyquan Roberts with 13.
Jamal Worthington led the Flames' rebounding effort with seven. Chad Lee and Brice Sharp each pulled down six boards as Lee out-rebounded the Chargers 42-34.
Lee took an early 9-2 lead, but UAH (8-7, 4-4 GSC) went on an 11-3 run to take a lead it would not relinquish with 12 minutes left in the first half. The Chargers held a 34-24 led at the half and led by as much as 24 before the Flames were able to chip away at the deficit.
"The last five minutes of the first half and the first five minutes of the second half really hurt," admitted Brown.
UAH was led by Ronnie Mack's 23 points. Mack hit 5-of-9 3-point shots and 8-of-12 shots from the field. Wayne Dedrick was the only other Charger in double-figures with 13 points.
The Flames were 21-for-57 (.368) from the field and made 4-of-18 from beyond the arc, while UAH made good on 24-of-60 (.400) attempts from the floor and drained 12 three-pointers (.343).
