Lady Flames Sweep Past Mississippi College

Williams Sets School Record in 3-0 Victory

Paced by a record setting performance from senior Lauren Williams the Lee volleyball team swept past Mississippi College, 3-0 on Friday night in Walker Arena.

Williams was on fire from the outset as she registered 16 kills on 17 total attacks with no errors for a school-record .941 hitting percentage.  The previous mark of .875 was set by Lee hall of famer Katrina Chatfield back in 1998.

"I thought Lauren had an amazing performance tonight," remarked head coach Andrea Hudson.  "To record the amount of kills she did with no errors was outstanding."

While Williams was re-writing the record books she got plenty of help from her teammates. Patty Orozco and Latrice Johnson had eight slams apiece while Brooke Wilsman pitched in seven to help pace a balanced attack.
Freshman setter Sadie Johnson bounced back from an injury last week to lead the way with 25 assists while junior Haley Foote added 20. Johnson sat out Tuesday's match at North Alabama recovering from a mild concussion.

"It was very nice to have Sadie back in the lineup," noted Hudson. "We have gotten good production from Haley (Foote) but we are a club that is best suited for a two-setter rotation."

After falling behind 9-7 in the opening set the Lady Flames fired back to close on an 18-8 run and claim the early advantage with a 25-17 victory.

Lee would cruise through the second and third sets as they doubled up the visitors 50-25 (25-13, 25-12) to complete the sweep. The Lady Flames recorded double-digit attacks in every set including 19 kills and a sizzling .581 hitting percentage in the third and final game.

Taylor Edwards and Krista Zieschang paced the Lady Choctaws attack with six kills respectively. Sydney Chandler set the offensive up with 19 assists while Ashton King (16 digs) and Holly Tupper (14 digs) helped anchor the back line.

The victory moves Lee to 8-16 on the year and 5-9 in GSC play. The Lady Flames also claim their first series sweep of the season after having defeated the Lady Choctaws back in Clinton, Miss. on Sept. 19.

The loss drops Mississippi College to 5-19 overall and 0-14 in league play in their first year of GSC competition after having transitioned from NCAA Division III.

The Lady Flames will get right back on the sport court tomorrow afternoon as they host West Alabama at 2 p.m. The Tigers scored a 3-1 victory over Lee in Livingston earlier in the year.
