Men's Tennis Impressive In Opener

Defeat Visiting Christian Brother on Sunday at DeVos Center

Richard Gamble hits winners in Sunday's tennis win over Christian Brothers
Box Score The Lee men's tennis team opened the 2014 season with an impressive 9-0 victory over visiting (Memphis) Christian Brothers on a cold Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.

Veteran leader Richard Gamble and Daniel Hardesty go the Flames off to a quick start in doubles by downing Austin Essary and Nick Wiseman, 8-2. Kevin Tan and Wes Lemke followed the lead and defeated Steven Johnston and Daniel D'Alto, 8-3. In the No. 3 doubles Alberto Calle and Vincent Audy were awarded a default.

The singles action was more of a test for the Flames. calle needed a short set before winning over Essary, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. Gamble had very little trouble in his 6-2, 6-3 win, but Hardesty needed a short set before turning back Johnston, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

Tan waltzed past D'Alto 6-0, 6-1 and Audy was a 6-0, 6-0 winner before Lemke closed out the afternoon with a default victory.

The Flames will celebrate part of their Valentine's Day on the courts of the DeVos Center when they host Georgetown College (Ky.) on Friday at 2 p.m.
