FLORENCE, Ala. -- The Lee University tennis teams were swept by the University of North Alabama on Saturday. The Flames lost the Gulf South Conference (GSC) match 7-2, while the Lady Flames were beaten 9-0.
Lee's next matches will be at home at The University of Alabama in Huntsville on March 5. The GSC matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
The Flames (1-4, 1-2 GSC) picked up wins at No. 5 an No. 6 singles. Vincent Audy won both sets against Ali Murad 6-3. Westley Lemke took down Jonathan Vick 6-2 in the opening set and earned the singles win with a 6-4 margin in the second set.
North Alabama (3-4, 2-1 GSC) held a 3-0 lead after doubles action was completed. Guillaume Dechoz and Aliaksei Kavalenka blanked Richard Gamble and Daniel Hardest, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles.
Lemke and Alberto Calle fell 8-5 to Max Druppel and Benjamin Poire. Kevin Tan and Audy lost 8-3 to Murad and Alex Weber.
Three of UNA's four singles wins were in straight sets. Dechoz defeated Calle 6-1, 6-2. Hardesty won three games from Druppel and Tan recorded two games against Kavalenka.
Gamble dropped his first set to Poire 6-3 before forcing a super set tie-breaker with a 6-4 mark in the second set. Gamble was edged 10-6 in the super set.
In the women's match, North Alabama (3-4, 2-1 GSC) swept the doubles matches to carry an early 3-0 lead. Jodie Rice and Krista Good lost at No. 2 doubles to Madison Patey and Avery King, 8-3. Kelsey Lovingood and Annie Sandberg lost to Morgan Jose and Bruna Vieira by the same score.
Lee (2-4, 2-2 GSC) had their closest doubles match at the No. 1 spot with Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky losing by an 8-6 margin.
The Lady Flames dropped all six singles matches in straight sets.
