Lynn Gets Past Flames, 1-0

Winning Goal Scored Midway of Second Half

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Host Lynn University recorded the game's only goal at the 67:58 mark and turned back two Lee scoring attempts in the final minutes to claim the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort Soccer Classic on Saturday evening.

"We really purt forth just a great effort tonight against a very good team," said Lee head coach Paul Furey. "We played a man down for 50 minutes and we battled and made them earn their goal. Even with a man down and a goal down we fought to the very end, trying to get the equalizer.

The win gives Lynn, the 2013 NCAA Division II national champs, a 4-0 record while the Flames suffer their first defeat and slip to 3-1-1 on the year. Lee will return to campus and prepare for old rival Tennessee Wesleyan College next Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Nicolas Mortensen tallied the game-winning for the Fighting Knights. He was assisted by James Casserly. All totaled Lynn fired 16 shots and placed seven on target. Lee keeper Tom Halsall had six saves. "Tommy (Halsall) played like an All-American goalkeeper tonight. he made four or five huge savesto keep us in it," praised Furey.

The Flames were limited to five shots, but three of the attempts were on goal. David Perez had his attempt saved by Fighting Knight keeper Max Schmidt, who finished the match with three saves. Barrett Mills and Myles Scott fires the other shots on goal late in the battle.

"Even with the loss I feel like we are still moving forward as a team," the coach proclaimed. "We gained some valuable experience tonight against a quality opponent."
