Box Score 2 CARROLLTON, Ga. – CARROLLTON, Ga. – Facing foes from the deep and talented Sunshine State Conference the Lee volleyball team dropped its first two matches on Friday at the South Region Crossover, hosted by the University of West Georgia.
The Lady Flames will wrap up the two-day event tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. as they host No. 14 Florida Southern College.
LU 0 BARRY 3In the second match of the day on Friday the Lady Flames fell in straight sets to the Barry Lady Bucs.
Barry jumped out to an early advantage with a 25-21 win in the opening set. The Lady Bucs would take set two by a 25-18 margin before closing things out with a 25-19 victory.
The Lee attack committed 25 errors while Barry had just 12 hitting mistakes.
Brooke Wilsman and Catherine Conley continued their solid play for the Lady Flames. Wilsman recorded 11 kills and Conley added five slams. Wilsman and Conley combined for 46 kills in the two matches.
Silva Sartori added eight slams and Blaire Beamer chipped in seven. Hillary Hoffpauir set the offense in motion with 23 assists while Sadie Johnson pitched 12 helpers. Stephanie Hernandez dug out 14 attacks.
The balanced Lady Bucs attack were led by Eva Raat with nine kills on a sizzling .421 hitting percentage. Katie Dooley added eight slams and eight blocks. Jasmine Serna did a little bit of everything with 18 assists, 14 digs and three aces.
Earlier on Friday the Lady Bucs defeated Alabama-Huntsville in straight sets (25-11, 25-14, 25-16).
The win moves Barry to 8-5 on the year while the loss drops the Lady Flames to 8-10.
LU 2 ECKERD 3The Lee volleyball team opened up play in the South Region Crossover falling to Eckerd College (Fla.) in a five-set battle on Friday morning.
The Tritons outlasted the Lady Flames with a 15-7 victory in the fifth and final set. Lee won set won 25-20 before Eckered bounced back by the same margin to even things up at 1-1.
In set three, the Lady Flames prevailed 25-21 before the Florida club forced the fifth set with a 25-18 victory in set four.
Sophomore Brooke Wilsman led the attack for the Lady Flames with 17 kills. Junior Catherine Conley pitched in 13 slams . Freshman Hillary Hoffpauir had 24 assists and sophomore Sadie Johnson added 18 helpers.
Defensively it was Stephanie Hernandez with 19 digs while Johnson registered 10. Wilsman made her presence felt on both ends with three blocks and eight digs.
Eckerd was paced by Toja Kontnik with 20 kills. Emily Schadow set up the offensive with 46 assists. The backline featured 14 digs by Kaitlyn Sibson.
The loss drops the Lady Flames to 8-9 overall on the year. The Tritons improve to 9-7. Both teams posted solid hitting percentages. Lee hit at a .245 clip while Eckerd posted a .268 mark.
The crossover is hosted by the University of West Georgia and pits schools from the Gulf South Conference against clubs from the Sunshine State Conference.
