Thacker's Headers Sparks Women's Soccer 5-0 Win

Lee Senior Scores Two Goals In Lee's GSC Victory Over DSU

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Talking about using your head! Lee's senior defender Laura Thacker did exactly that in a 5-0 blanking of host Delta State University on Friday afternoon in a Gulf South Conference soccer contest.

The victory is the seventh straight for the ladies of coach Chris Hennessey, who improved to 7-1 in the important GSC race and 8-3-2 overall. The Lady Flames will put their winning streak squarely on the line on Sunday afternoon when they travel on over to Clinton, Miss. and face a Mississippi College team that owns a 5-1-2 league mark and is 9-1-3 overall.

Thacker knocked in her first header in the 14th minute to put Lady Flames on top for good. Her second header (fourth goal of season) came just over a minute later (16:10) off a second straight assist from McKenzie Bricker. Shortly after the halftime break (46:32) Bricker posted her first goal of the year and pushed the margin to 3-0 with an unassisted score.

Summer Lanter got into the scoring act with her sixth score of the year on an assist from Katie Cloud. The final tally came off the foot of Lauren Peters. It was her third goal and the assist was credited to Sarah Stanley.

The Lady Flames completely dominated play from start to finish, firing 20 shots and placing nine on target. The defense allowed the Lady Senators only one shot the entire afternoon and it was saved by Lee goalkeeper Erin Olson. On the other end, Emily Oldacre had four saves

"It was another good win for us today," said Hennessey. "I felt like we approached the game with a good mentality. I was pleased that our forwards got on the score sheet again and our defense didn't concede a goal. I think we gave one shot up the whole game, which is testament to how well we are playing."

Hennessey wasted no time in going to work on Sunday's affair against Mississippi College. "We know Sunday is a huge game for us as Mississippi College has only lost one game this season," he added.
