Choctaws End Women's Soccer Winning Streak

Lady Flames Drop 2-1 Contest at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The Choctaws of Mississippi College ended Lee's seven-match winning streak by handing the Lady Flames a 2-1 defeat in a Gulf South Conference (GSC) women's soccer contest on Sunday afternoon.

The loss leaves the Lady Flames with a 7-2-0 GSC record and 8-4-2 overall. Mississippi College improves to 10-1-3 overall and 6-1-2 against GSC opponents. The Choctaws are not eligible for conference championships until next season.

Lee jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Lauren Peters' goal at the 8:59, but Mississippi College came back to tie the contest on Caitlin Hayes' score (10:51). Meghan Mauzy posted the assist.

The first half ended in at 1-1 and the Choctaws took the lead for the first time in the 62nd minute on Hannah Bailey's goal. Sayit Mejia Bello dished off the assist.

"No matter how well you play sometimes you're just not meant to win games," said Lee's disappointed coach Chris Hennessey. "We knew coming into the game that they were very dangerous from corners. We just couldn't deal with their physical presence and height. Ultimately the two goals that they scored from corners cost us the game."

Lee outshot Mississippi College 11-4, but could put only two on goal. The Choctaws had three of their four shots on goal Erin Olson had two saves in the loss.

"Right now we will take a few days off and try to get some players healthy again and get ready for another tough weekend," added Hennessey.

The Lady Flames will continue GSC play next Friday at 5 p.m. when they return to the Lee Soccer Field and host Christian Brothers University.
