Playing what coach Chris Hennessey described as very pleasing soccer from start to finish, the Lee women posted an impressive 3-0 victory over a battling Christian Brothers University squad on Friday evening on the Lee Soccer Field.
The victory pushed Lee's record to 9-4-2 overall and 8-2 in Gulf South Conference play. Christian Brothers slipped to 8-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the important GSC standings.
The Lady Flames led 1-0 at the half. Kinsey Cichowitz recorded her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Mia Hollingsworth. The score came off the rebound of a saved shot. "It was great to see Mia back tonight," said coach Hennessey. "Although she has been out for the past few games, she came in, got good minutes and had a direct impact on the first goal."
Lee wasted no time in stretching the margin to 2-0 in the 51st minute. Summer Lanter slipped a shot past the CBU goalkeeper on a long throw-in from McKenzie Bricker. Lauren Peters gave the Lady Flames their final goal on a header off a cross by Bricker, who collected her second assist of the contest. It was the fifth goal of the season by the streaking Peters.

"Even though we were up 1-0  at halftime, the game was far from over. In the second half I felt like we managed the game a little better and changed the way approached things," noted the Lee coach. "I am very happy with tonight's win. We knew coming into the game it was going to be a battle for the entire 90 minutes. The first 45 minutes was very tough.  Credit has to go to Christian Brothers for the way they came out and played."
Hennessey added, "Again I thought we defended well and Erin (Olson) came up with a big save at a vital moment in the game." Â The Lee goalkeeper registered five saves in gaining the victory. Â Christian Brothers' keeper Autumn Woods recorded four saves. Lee had 17 shots and seven were on goal. Christian Brothers battled hard for eight shots and had five on target.
"We know Sunday is going to be another battle against Union," said the Lee coach. "We will make sure to get our rest tomorrow and be ready to go in another important GSC contest."
