Volleyball Silences Wolves in Five-Set Battle

Lee Outlasts West Georgia to Claim First Road Conference Victory

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Lee volleyball team earned a hard-fought Gulf South Conference road victory after outlasting the West Georgia Wolves in a five-set thriller on Saturday evening.

After opening things up with a convincing 25-13 set one win the Lady Flames found themselves in a 2-1 hole after dropping sets two and three (25-22, 26-24).

Lee would rally back to win set four, 25-22 before claiming a 17-15 nail biting victory in the fifth and final set.

With the Lady Flames up 15-14 West Georgia's Tiffany Ancrum tied things up with one of her four kills. Erin Hill responded and put Lee back on top at 16-15 before a Wolves' attack error sealed the victory.

The Lady Flames were led by junior Catherine Conley. The Acworth, Ga. Native registered 14 kills on a sizzling .357 hitting percentage. Silvia Sartori, coming off conference Freshman of the Week honors, added 13 slams. Brooke Wilsman posted a double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs.

The balanced Lee attack also saw Erin Hill and Blaire Beamer chip in eight slams apiece. Makala Beebe anchored the backline with 20 digs and added six assists. Haley Foote led the club with 23 assists.

Katie Hanson paced the Wolves attack with 12 kills. Paige Berriochoa recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. The offensive was set up by Victoria Rushin with 25 assists.

The win moves Lee back to the .500 mark at 6-6 and improves its conference mark to 2-5. The loss drops West Georgia to 3-10 on the season. The Wolves are still searching for their first conference win and currenlty sit at 0-8.

Coach Andrea Hudson's club will be back on the sport court at Walker Arena on Tuesday as they host conference rival Union University at 7 p.m.
