Volleyball Falls To Valdosta, W. Florida

Lady Flames Return Home to Host Volley For The Cure

Facing the top two clubs in the Gulf South Conference, the Lee volleyball team dropped its second straight road decision on Saturday afternoon, falling to 23rd ranked West Florida, 3-0.(25-15, 25-22, 25-17) on Friday, the Lady Flames dropped a 3-0 decision at Valdosta State.

Ten kills and six digs by Silvia Sartori was not enough for the Lady Flames against the talented Argos. Catherine Conley added eight kills and four blocks in the loss and Brooke Wilsman totaled five kills.

Hillary Hoffpauir dished off 21 assists, while Stephanie Hernandez was the dig leader with 11. Sarah Davis served up a pair of aces and added five digs. Emily Bento walked away with three blocks. The Lady Flames are 11-15 overall and 6-10 in the GSC.

For the winning Argos, Autumn Dyun was tops at the net with 11 kills. Kathryn joined in with eight kills and a pair of blocks. Monique StCyr set her teammates up with 28 assists.

The Lady Flames will return to Walker Arena on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and host the annual Volleyball For The Cure event against GSC opponent West Georgia.   


Valdosta 3. Lee 0 
The Lee volleyball team ventured back out on the road on Friday evening and fell to Valdosta State University, 3-0 in a Gulf South Conference matchup from the Peach State.

The Lady Blazers opened things up with a 25-17 victory in set one. The home team compiled a .325 hitting percentage and committed just three errors. The Lady Flames would jump out to a 12-7 advantage in set two before Valdosta State closed on an 18-4 run.

The two clubs bobbed back and forth for much of the third set before VSU broke away to complete the sweep with a 25-19 victory.

The Lady Flames got 11 kills from junior Catherine Conley to pace the offensive attack. Silvia Sartori added eight slams fresh off being named GSC Freshman of the Week and fellow freshman Emily Bento had five.

Freshman Hillary Hoffpauir continued to anchor the setter position and assisted on 26 points for Lee. Senior libero Stephanie Hernandez registered a match-high 18 digs and sophomore Brooke Wilsman chipped in 11.

The Lady Blazers were led by Susanna Peonia with 15 kills while Lea Jaklen added nine. Jessica Cordato did a little bit of everything as she recorded a double-double of 28 assists and 15 digs to go along with two blocks.

Lee had won three straight matches coming into the Friday night tilt with the Lady Blazers. Coach Andrea Hudson's club now sits at 11-14 on the year and are 6-9 in league play. Valdosta State improves to 18-5 and are 13-2 in the GSC, a half-game back of West Florida.
