November 6, 2015

Gary Sharp has served Lee University as a member of its Board of Directors since 1994 and has served as Chairman of the Board since 2010. He holds the distinction of being the first layman to be elected to that position. Under his chairmanship the university, as part of Find Us Faithful Capital Campaign, completed construction of The Chapel, New Hughes Hall, 3 townhouse units, the Communication Arts Building, Pangle Hall, the School of Nursing building, the School of Business building, and the development and transformation of the South Campus Quad. Along with his responsibilities as Chairman, Sharp also serves on the Property Acquisition Committee, Construction Surveillance Committee, and the Board of Director's Finance & Budget Committee.
Sharp was named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 1993.

Gary and his wife, Joyce, gave the lead gift for Sharp-Davis Hall, a women's dorm which was named in honor of Sharp's parents.

Gary Sharp has been a strong, steady Lee University athletics enthusiast for years. He was with us as Lee teams made their way from NCCAA competition to the NAIA, and then he celebrated with us as Lee became an official member of the Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II. We are pleased to honor Sharp with admittance into the Lee University Athletic Hall of Fame by awarding to him the 2015 Athletic Meritorious Award.
