West Georgia Beats Lee 72-60

Foul Troubles Hurt Lady Flames Throughout the Contest

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of West Georgia denied coach Marty Rowe of his 300th coaching victory at Lee by outscoring the Lady Flames 39-31 in the second half in posting a 72-60 Gulf South Conference victory.

The inside-outside attack of the Wolves was too much for the Lady Flames. Taylor Beverley had 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to spark the win. She had plenty of help as Seandre Lee poured in 16 points and Katrinia Littlepage tallied 13 points from her guard position. Marion Lemonnier countered with 10 points, seven rebounds and dished off five assists.

The Lady Flames got into early foul trouble and West Georgia made them pay. Emileigh Swafford picked up her third foul in the opening 20 minutes. After sitting out much of the first half, she returned to lead Lee in scoring with 17 points.

Shelby Brown picked up a double-double in the loss. She totaled 16 points and grabbed a game-leading 13 rebounds. Erin Walsh, also in foul trouble, managed to score 12 points before leaving the game with her fifth foul. Christina Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds and totaled seven points.

The Wolves shot a blistering 48 percent from the field in the second half and finished with 44 percent overall. They won the game at the free throw line by making 21-of-31 attempts. On the other hand, Lee was awarded only 14 charity tosses and converted nine.

The overall rebounding battle was even at 36 but West Georgia pulled down eight crucial offensive boards. The Lady Flames shot a respectable 41 percent from the field but canned only 5-of-20 3-point attempts.

After playing nine of their last 11 games on the road, Lee will welcome the opportunity to return to Walker Arena on Thursday. They will play host to Mississippi College in a 6 p.m. contest
