Saturday's Baseball Cancelled

Game 2 Goes Down as Tie, but Final Game Cancelled

Because of Friday evening snow, Lee's Saturday baseball games scheduled for Olympic Field were cancelled. The series will go down in the record books as the University of Alabama at Huntsville winning the first game 2-0 and the second contest listed as a 1-1 tie.

"The remainder of our series with UAH was cancelled," said Lee coach Mark Brew. "Conference rules state that game 2 of the series concludes in a 1-1 tie and the final game will be cancelled with no make up."

Game 2

The cold action continued and found the second game, which was scheduled for seven innings, suspended with snow falling and carrying into extra innings, tied at 1-1.

Dustin Lawson started and worked six solid innings for the Flames. He allowed four hits, one earned run, fanned eight and walked two. Kyle Briner came on to hurl two innings before play was suspended. He was perfect with a pair of strikeouts.

Huntsville countered with Chris Kilpatrick. In 6.1 innings, he gave up five hits, fanned seven and walked two. Like Lawson he gave up one earned run.

Luke Toms  was in the midst of a big day at the plate. He collected three of Lee's five hits, including a pair of doubles Trenton Hill had a hit and scored Lee's only run, while Nate Weirzgac had the other Flames' hit and MJ Brown knocked in Lee's only score. Cody Burton banged out a hit from his leadoff spot and scored the only Charger run.

"The remainder of our series with UAH will be cancelled," said Lee coach Mark Brew. "Conference rules state that game 2 of the series concludes in a 1-1 tie and the final game will be cancelled with no make up."

Game 1
Alabama-Huntsville 2, Lee 0

The Chargers pushed across solo runs in the fourth and eighth innings in claiming the opener of the three-game series. Lefty Daniel Koger (3-0) pitched seven innings of six-hit ball and Luke Mould came on to work the eighth and ninth innings to pick up the save.

Koger struck out six and walked only one batter, while Mould did not allow a hit and struck out one in his two innings of work.

It was a different story for the Flames. Four pitchers combined to walk 10 Charger hitters and that eventually led to Lee's downfall.

Trenton Hill (3-1) started and hurled 5 1/3 innings. He surrendered only one hit and allowed one earned run, but walked six Huntsville hitters while striking out five. Ridge Ackerman was called on for 1 2/3 innings. He gave up three hits, one earned run and walked two. Michael Jones followed and worked the Flames out of a jam in the seventh inning. He allowed two walks and struck two. Dakota Fowler was credited with 1/3 of an inning of work. He allowed the final Charger hit of the day

The Chargers scored their first run in the top of the fourth. Zach Dugas and Chandler Brock walked. Both advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Trey Mathis. Dugas scored on a wild pitch.

In the eighth Huntsville added an insurance run. Cody Burton singled and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Dugas was hit by a pitch and Brock walked to load the bases. Burton scored when Mathis grounded out to short.

The Flames could never mount a serious threat. Nate Wierzgac paced the Lee hitting attack with a pair of singles. Siosi Poti, Cameron Scott, Josh Tate and Zach Zyburt had Lee's other hits.

Burton had a pair of singles for the winners, while Ryan Barnes, Ben Hall and Tanner Cimo had the other Charger hits.

The remainder of our series with UAH will be cancelled. Conference rules state that game 2 of the series concludes in a 1-1 tie and the final game will be cancelled with no make up. Thanks for help throughout this tough weather.
