It was total dominance from start to finish for Lee women's basketball team as it rolled past Hiwassee College, 100-48 in Thursday's non-conference matchup from Walker Arena.
Leading the offensive explosion for the Lady Flames was freshman Erin Walsh who scored a career-high 30 points and tied the Lee single-game record for made 3-pointers with eight. Walsh was 10-of-16 from the field in the contest.
Walsh tied the mark previously set by Hollie German, Jessica Still and Chrissy Anderson. "Erin was terrific tonight," said head coach Marty Rowe. "Her and Emileigh played really well for us offensively and got us going early."
The Lady Flames as a team hit a sizzling 52.1 percent (37-of-71) from the field and were keeping the fans in the end zone busy putting up the 3-point markers as they went 13-of-34 (38.2 percent) from beyond-the-arc.
"I thought this was the best version of us on the floor tonight," said Rowe. "We lacked some energy on defense but I thought offensively we played a very clean game despite the limited minutes we played certain players."
Emileigh Swafford added 20 points and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line. Swafford grabbed eight rebounds. Carrie Cheeks posted 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just 16 minutes of action due to foul trouble.
"Carrie was awesome today and we wanted to play her more but she got a few early foul," said Rowe. "Caroline (Smith) and KB (Kayla Beavers) played really well off the bench for us tonight."
Beavers hit three triples to account for her nine points. Shelby Brown tallied eight markers and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Smith dished out five assists and pulled down five rebounds.
Hiwassee had three players finish in double-figures. Halei LeQuire and Dominique Stringer had 13 points each. Tamyah Potts added 12 points. LeQuire led the team with six rebounds.
Lee limited the Tigers to just 25.7 percent (18-of-70) shooting from the field. The Lady Flames out-rebounded Hiwassee by a staggering 59-27 margin.
Lee jumped out to a quick start and never looked back holding a 58-30 advantage at the halftime break. "I was happy we were able to get our reserves in and still play at a pretty high level," concluded Rowe.
The Lady Flames will see the Tigers again next week as the two teams open up NCCAA Mid-East Region action on Thursday at 6 p.m. from Walker Arena.
The victory moves the Lady Flames to 17-8 on the season. Lee finishes up the regular season and Gulf South Conference portion of the schedule hosting rival Shorter University on Saturday at 5 p.m. Seniors Madison Lee and Alex Swope will be recognized prior to the men's game.
