MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The men's and women's tennis teams ventured back into Gulf South Conference play on Saturday battling Delta State University. The Lady Flames fell 6-3 to the Lady Statesmen and the Flames suffered a 5-1 setback to the Mississippi Club.

Due to weather concerns the match with Delta State was moved to Memphis, Tenn. Rain in West Tennessee cancelled Sunday's match with Christian Brothers.

The Lady Flames are now 5-4 on the year and 1-4 in league play. The Flames drop to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the GSC.

Both squads will stay in conference play as they host North Alabama on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the DeVos Tennis Courts before traveling to Clinton for a road contest with Mississippi College on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky started things off with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Flames but Delta State would respond with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles on its way to a 6-3 victory.

McGraner continued her solid play with a three-set victory over Katharina Assmann (2-6, 7-5, 6-2) at No. 1 singles while Maclain Yowarsky notched the other singles win as she defeated Alex Howe, 6-4, 6-4. Marta Garcia-Nieto pushed Charlotte LeFlohic to a first set tie-breaker but dropped the match, 7-5, 6-2.

The Flames fell to Delta State by a 5-1 margin. Lee's lone victory came at No. 2 doubles as Alberto Calle and Wes Lemke teamed up to beat Lionel Gazzo and Guillermo Cerrato-Saura, 8-6.

In singles action freshman Rhys Milne won five games but was topped by Delta State's Niko Ptasinski (6-1, 6-4). Daniel Hardesty forced a third set but came up short against Lionel Gazzo (3-6, 6-4, 6-1) in the No. 3 spot. The final three singles matches were not completed after Delta State had already clinched the victory.
