Track Claims Eight Top Finishes

Mountain Laurel Invitational Was Final Warmup Before NCCAA Nationals

RESULTS

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Lee University men's and women's track teams each placed third at the Mountain Laurel Invitational hosted by University of the South Friday evening. The event was the final warmup before NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals on April 30-May 2 in Rome, Ga.

The squads combined for 30 top five finishes and evenly split eight first place performances. Adrian Martin, Jessica Childers and Harold Smith tallied two wins each, while Camden Perez and Hunter Goforth added one event win each.

Martin was first in the 400 meter dash (57.81) and the 200 meter dash (25.33). Joining Martin in the 200 meter were Emily Bryan, Brianna Prugh, Kaitlynn Kincer and Monica Allison. Bryan was ninth (28.79), Prugh finished 13th (29.29), Kincer was 14th (29.96) and Allison was 15th (30.20).

Martin also placed second in the 100 meter dash. Her time of 12.44 was 0.20 seconds behind Tiarra Goode of Birmingham-Southern College.

Childers paced four Lady Flames in the 800 meter run with a top time of 2:18.40. Prugh was sixth (2:27.83), Madison Riddle was eighth (2:32.11) and Moneque Beckford was 10th (2:45.08).

Childers also placed first in the 1500 meter run with a mark of 4:52.18. Audrey Smith was second (5:01.21) and Elizabeth Sillcocks was right behind at third (5:01.68).
Childers added a third top two finish with a time of 10:36.65 in the 3000 meter run. Sillcocks was third (10:45.64) and Danielle King recorded a time of 12:16.68 (19th).

Smith recorded his wins in the 800 meter and 1500 meter runs. He posted a time of 1:54.35 to lead a contingent of seven Flames, including four in the top five, in the 800 meter run. Emmanuel Kipchumba was second (1:54.80), Adam Gullette was fourth (1:56.40) and Terris Elliott was fifth (1:56.69). Alex Carter finished 12th (1:59.93), Perez was 13th (2:00.62) and Nick Eckert was 17th (2:04.09).

The Flames placed five runners in the top eight of the 1500 meter run. Smith led the way with a time of 4:04.11. Seth Eagleson was third (4:06.85), Joseph Crook finished at 4:08.25 (fifth), Alex Carter was sixth (4:09.39) and Eckert crossed the finish line in eighth (4:14.37).

Goforth was first in the long jump with a leap of 6.32 meters and placed seventh (11.80) in the 100 meter dash.

Perez and Elliott ran in the 3000 meter steeplechase with Perez placing first (9:34.36) and Elliott finishing third (9:46.36).

Bryan earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.40. Bryan was joined by Allison in the 400 meter hurdles. The duo finished inside the top three with Bryan at second (1:07.40) and Allison at third (1:12.66).

Kincer placed second in the long jump. Her distance of 4.82 meters was 0.02 meters shy of first. Participating in the shot put were Alexis Qumsieh, Bryan and Lauren Hart. Qumsieh was third (6.94 meters), Bryan was fourth (6.17 meters) and Hart was fifth (3.72 meters).

Brandon Harmon (52.74) and Javon Jones (53.04) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400 meter dash. Harmon and Jones were joined by Gullette in the 200 meter dash. Harmon was ninth (24.17), Gullette 10th (24.36) and Jones was 12th (25.65).

Eagleson, Crook and Tim Yates took on the 3000 meter run with Eagleson and Crook claiming spots in the top six. Eagleson was fifth (9:04.94), Crook was sixth (9:13.51) and Yates crossed the finish line at 10:04.93 (13th).

Rick Barry posted a pair of second place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles (15.64) and 400 meter hurdles (55.24). Matt Jenkins was 12th in the shot put with a measured distance of 5.60 meters.
